St. John Bar and Restaurant

Without a shadow of a doubt, one of London's best restaurants!
26 St. John Street, London EC1M 4AY (nr. Smithfield's market / Farringdon tube)

Food:
10/10
The menu changes daily, but always comprises a good mix of game, staples, veg and fish. I would ordinarily substitute a dessert with an Armagnac or similar, but on this occasion, it would have been a travesty not to do both! In addition to the A La Carte, we have just discovered the delights within the feasting menu. These must be ordered in advance, but are well worth a look!
Favourite starters: Lamb Marrow; Duck Hearts and Broad Beans; Brown Crab on Toast
Favourite mains: Slow-Roasted Pork Shoulder with Chard; Roasted Pigeon (served rare)
Favourite desserts: Lemon Pie; Ginger sponge

Service:
9/10
The service staff at St. John's are of the most knowledgeable we've come across. If like us, you feel an instinctual need to subject the waiter/waitress to a 10 minute inquisition before you order, you are provided a clear and detail explanation, as opposed to a glazed look, and an answer comprising the words "good" and "nice". Staff are always friendly, straight-talking and share your enthusiasm for the event!

Atmosphere:
9/10
Unpretentious, uniquely simple, and charming.
